ACGME Honors for Innovation in Medical Education

Winner of the 2023 ACGME David C. Leach Award

Congratulation to David Velez, founder of The Operative Review of Surgery! For this program, he was awarded the 2023 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) David C. Leach award.

Per the ACGME: The David C. Leach Award was created in 2008 to honor the former Executive Director of the ACGME (1997-2007), David C. Leach, MD, and his contributions to resident education and physician well-being. The award acknowledges and honors residents, fellows, and resident/fellow teams for their contributions to graduate medical education. It recognizes residents and fellows who have fostered innovation and improvement in their programs, advanced humanism in medicine, and increased efficiency and emphasis on educational outcomes.

This program has grown faster than we had ever hoped for. Within just the first year we saw tens of thousands of users with hundreds of thousands of page views. It has been used across the entire United States and throughout the globe in over 80 countries.

Velez: “I am honored and incredibly grateful to have received this award. First off, thank you to all the users out there. The countless words of encouragement and people contacting us to let us know how the program has helped them makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to the entire O.R. team and the dozens of other residents and physicians who have helped contribute to make this program a success. Thank you to my wife, Jamie. None of this would have been possible without your support and encouragement.”

As we continue to grow, we are always looking for help. If you have any ideas or want to join the program, simply reach out at: team@operativereview.com
