Basics
- Benign Soft Tissue Pseudotumor
- Most Common Site: Subscapular/Infrascapular at the Lower Pole of the Scapula, Deep to the Serratus Anterior
- Slow Growing
- May Be Bilateral (13-33%)
- Most Common in Women
- Most Common in Elderly (Age > 50-60 Years)
Presentation
- Often Asymptomatic
- Pain/Discomfort
- Swelling
- “Snapping” of the Scapula with Movement
Diagnosis
- MRI: Streaks of Fibrous & Fatty Tissue
- Often Difficult to Exclude Soft Tissue Sarcoma on Imaging – May Require Core Needle Biopsy
Treatment
- Asymptomatic: Nothing
- Symptomatic: Surgical Excision
- High Rates of Hematoma/Seroma (40-80%) – Should Have About One Week of Suction Drainage with Limb Immobilization
